Recommended Vaccines

In addition to the required vaccinations, the Student Health Services strongly recommends that all students obtain the following:

  • Bacterial Meningitis vaccine - On-campus students under the age of 22 are required to have received a vaccine against Meningitis ACYW (after their 16th birthday). Also, though not currently State law, Student Health Services also wants students to be aware of the vaccine against meningitis-B, a rare but deadly disease. To determine if you are at risk and if the meningitis-B vaccine is right for you, please contact a healthcare professional.
  • Hepatitis B vaccine series is recommended for all students. Students enrolled in academic courses which result in an increased risk of contracting Hepatitis-B will be immunized against this disease prior to potential exposure. Visit the University policy website for more information.
  • Mumps & Measles vaccine (2 MMRs - Measles, Mumps & Rubella vaccines are now required for all on-campus students) - Due to the recent mumps and measles outbreaks in several states (including Illinois) the Center for Disease Control and the American College Health Association have issued recommendations that all students should have documentation that they have received two doses of MMR (Measles-Mumps-Rubella) vaccine or other evidence of immunity to mumps & measles. Student Health Services encourages all members of our campus community to review your immunization history with your health care professional.
  • HPV vaccine - The CDC recommends the HPV vaccine for all male and female students between 9 and 26 years of age. HPV can cause cervical cancer in women and other types of anogenital cancers and genital warts in both men and women.
  • COVID-19 Vaccinations are not currently a State or University requirement for admission, but it is highly recommended that students receive this vaccination and submit proper documentation to us with their other immunization records.
